Profile

Joshua Adjei-Kumi is a multidisciplinary professional, educator, and policy-oriented practitioner whose career spans security administration, legal enforcement, public sector governance, and enterprise development. With over a decade of experience in regulatory compliance, investigations, and operational leadership within major public institutions in Ghana, he brings a rare blend of practical insight, analytical depth, and instructional competence to both professional practice and the classroom.

Joshua currently serves as an Instructor at TrainUp Consult, where he teaches SME Management and Innovation and Innovation Management and Strategy. In this role, he works closely with entrepreneurs, managers, and emerging business leaders, equipping them with practical tools for building sustainable enterprises in complex and resource-constrained environments. His teaching philosophy emphasizes applicability over theory for its own sake—bridging strategy, innovation, and execution to help small and medium-sized enterprises grow, adapt, and compete effectively.

Academically, Joshua holds a dual MBA certificate in Entrepreneurship and Project Management, which forms the backbone of his expertise in enterprise development, innovation-driven growth, and structured execution. His background in entrepreneurship enables him to guide SMEs in opportunity identification, value creation, and business model development, while his project management training strengthens his focus on planning, risk management, performance monitoring, and delivery. This combination allows him to approach innovation not merely as creativity, but as a disciplined process that must be managed, measured, and aligned with organizational strategy.

To further strengthen his understanding of governance and public-sector dynamics, Joshua is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Public Policy and Management at the University of Cape Coast. This program deepens his engagement with policy analysis, institutional management, regulatory frameworks, and public-sector reform. His graduate studies reflect a clear interest in how public policy shapes enterprise development, compliance behavior, and economic outcomes, particularly in developing economies such as Ghana. This academic pursuit complements his professional experience and informs his teaching, especially in areas where SMEs intersect with regulation, public institutions, and national development goals.

Professionally, Joshua has built an extensive career within the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), where he currently serves as a Principal Prosecutor. In this capacity, he leads investigations and prosecutions related to non-compliance with statutory obligations, prepares legal and intelligence reports, and provides strategic oversight for enforcement operations. His work requires a high level of integrity, analytical rigor, and attention to statutory procedures, all of which have shaped his disciplined and methodical approach to problem-solving.

Before his current role, Joshua served in several prosecutorial and enforcement positions within SSNIT, including assignments in Asafo–Kumasi, Tema Harbour, Tema Area Office, and Somanya. Across these roles, he was responsible for investigating offences, gathering and managing evidence, preparing witnesses, conducting intelligence-led field operations, and engaging employers on compliance education and enforcement actions. His consistent exposure to regulatory breaches, institutional risk, and operational failures has given him a grounded understanding of why many organizations—particularly SMEs—struggle with governance, compliance, and sustainability.

Earlier in his career, Joshua worked with the Judicial Service of Ghana as a Registrar and Court Administrator in Cape Coast. In this role, he managed court operations, case files, evidence registers, and administrative procedures while supporting judges in sensitive legal and operational tasks. This experience sharpened his understanding of legal processes, documentation standards, and institutional accountability, and it continues to influence his emphasis on structure, process, and compliance in both teaching and professional practice.

In addition to his MBA qualifications, Joshua has pursued a diverse academic path that reflects intellectual breadth and adaptability. He holds an LL.B from Central University, a Professional Certificate in Criminal Prosecution and Litigation from the Ghana School of Law, a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Administration, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Information Systems from GIMPA. His foundational degree is a BSc in Physics from the University of Cape Coast, which contributes to his analytical mindset, comfort with data, and systematic approach to problem-solving.

This interdisciplinary background positions Joshua uniquely as both a practitioner and an educator. In the classroom at TrainUp Consult, he draws on real-world enforcement cases, regulatory challenges, and organizational failures to illustrate the consequences of poor management, weak innovation systems, and inadequate strategic planning. Rather than presenting innovation as abstract theory, he frames it as a necessity for survival—particularly for SMEs operating under regulatory pressure, financial constraints, and rapidly changing markets.

Joshua’s instruction in Innovation Management and Strategy focuses on helping learners understand how innovation must align with organizational goals, resources, and external environments. He emphasizes strategic clarity, disciplined experimentation, and the use of data and intelligence in decision-making. His background in intelligence gathering and analysis enables him to teach innovation not just as ideation, but as informed action grounded in evidence, market understanding, and risk assessment.

In SME Management and Innovation , Joshua places strong emphasis on governance, compliance, financial discipline, and operational controls—areas often overlooked by small businesses but critical to long-term sustainability. His experience in enforcement and prosecution allows him to speak authoritatively about regulatory expectations, statutory obligations, and the real costs of non-compliance. This practical orientation resonates strongly with entrepreneurs who must navigate both opportunity and risk in their daily operations.

Joshua is widely recognized for his integrity, discipline, and analytical problem-solving abilities. His career demonstrates consistent leadership in high-risk and highly regulated environments, where errors carry legal, financial, and reputational consequences. These qualities inform his mentoring style: direct, structured, and focused on accountability and results rather than shortcuts or superficial success.

Beyond formal instruction, Joshua is deeply interested in the intersection of public policy, enterprise development, and national economic growth. His ongoing academic work in public policy reflects a commitment to understanding how institutions can better support entrepreneurship while maintaining regulatory integrity. This perspective enables him to contribute meaningfully to discussions on SME policy, compliance culture, and innovation ecosystems in Ghana.

Fluent in English and several Ghanaian languages, including Twi, Fanti, Ga, Ewe, Hausa, and Larteh, Joshua is an effective communicator across diverse professional and social contexts. This linguistic and cultural versatility enhances his effectiveness as both an instructor and a practitioner, particularly in stakeholder engagement, training, and public sensitization.

In summary, Joshua Adjei-Kumi is a seasoned professional whose profile combines academic rigor, practical enforcement experience, and instructional expertise. As an instructor at TrainUp Consult, he brings depth, realism, and strategic clarity to the teaching of SME Management and Innovation. As a public-sector professional and graduate student in public policy, he continues to refine his understanding of governance, regulation, and institutional performance. His work reflects a clear commitment to disciplined leadership, sustainable enterprise development, and the responsible application of innovation in both private and public sectors.
